Traditionally used by Inuits in the Arctic, extreme cold weather hoods are today still lined with wolverine fur which has a natural resistance to “frosting”, reducing the formation of ice in the way of sight and contact with the skin. Hoods trimmed with other furs, or not trimmed, get stiff and heavy with frost when moisture freezes on them.
Fur lined hoods also prevent cold air and snow from rolling into the hood and reduce wind chill by slowing down eddies of cold air in front of your face.
