Cube, a 3D home printer starts shipping in a few days on May 25th 2012. Designer Janne Kyttanen from Freedom of Creation already has a footwear design available for public download. Yes, a footwear design that you can print yourself at home using Cube.
The Macedonia High Heel Shoe costs $29.00 to download and is based on one of her 3D printed designs called the Macedonia tray, which is part of the permanent collection at the Museum Of Modern Arts in New York.
Although the Cube printer currently only uses ABS plastic and it’s portable size limits it to building objects smaller than adult sized footwear (the Macedonia High Heel Shoe measures only 6.45x 12.932 x 8.746 cm), the Cube is a clear sign that the future is here.
But only if we can come up with ideas more creative than High Heel Shoes with integrated iPod holders.
